AI chatbot for WhatsApp Business: how it works and how to choose one
An AI chatbot can answer your WhatsApp customers in seconds, day and night, in their own language. It can also invent a price you never set. Here is how they work, and how to tell a good one from a risky one before it talks to your customers.

What an AI chatbot for WhatsApp actually does
Each time a customer writes, the chatbot reads the whole conversation so far, looks up what it needs in your business information (products, prices, stock, delivery fees, opening hours, rules), and writes a reply. The better ones can also act: put an order together, book a time, or bring the owner into the chat. That is the line between a chatbot and an AI agent, explained in WhatsApp AI agent vs chatbot.
Because it reads meaning rather than keywords, it copes with how people really write: “how much 4 da black one size 42?”, a mix of English and Swahili, a voice note, or a screenshot of a product they saw somewhere.
Menu bot or AI chatbot?
A menu bot answers “Reply 1 for prices, 2 for delivery.” An AI chatbot answers the question. Here is the same customer with each:
Menu bot
Customer: Hi do you have the brown sandals in 40, and can you deliver to Kilimani today?
Shop: Welcome! Reply 1 for our catalogue, 2 for delivery information, 3 to speak to an agent.
AI chatbot
Customer: Hi do you have the brown sandals in 40, and can you deliver to Kilimani today?
Shop: Hi! Yes, the brown leather sandals are in stock in size 40, KSh 2,800. Delivery to Kilimani is KSh 200 and arrives today if you order before 3pm. Shall I put it together for you?
The second reply sells. It is also only as good as the facts behind it, which is the next point.
The one thing that matters: does it stick to your facts?
General AI models are built to always have an answer. Left alone, a chatbot will happily confirm a size you do not stock, quote last month’s price or promise delivery by noon. For a shop that is worse than no reply.
Ask any provider how their chatbot handles a question it has no data for. The right answer is that it says it does not know and brings you in. GetOrda answers only from your own catalogue, never invents a product, a price or a delivery time, and shares your payment details only once an order exists.
Questions to ask before you choose
- Does it work on my current WhatsApp number, or do I need a new one?
- Does it answer only from my products and prices? What does it do when it does not know?
- Does it understand voice notes, photos and the languages my customers use?
- Can it take an order with the right delivery fee, or book an appointment into my free times?
- How do I step in? Can I reply from my phone as usual, and pause it for one chat?
- When does it share my payment details, and who confirms the payment?
- What does it cost each month, and are there per-message charges on top?
- Can I try it free on my own shop before paying?
What it costs
Pricing comes in two shapes. Platforms built on the WhatsApp Business Platform usually charge a monthly fee and pass on Meta’s charges for some messages, so the bill grows with your volume. Others charge a flat monthly price. GetOrda is free to start with no card, and the paid plans are on the pricing page.
Try one on your own shop
The quickest test is your own customers’ questions. Create a shop on GetOrda, add a few products with prices, link your number, and message it from another phone the way your customers do. Ask about something you do not sell, too, and see what it says.
